The Halo 5: Guardians Beta has left me completely at a loss. Halo 5: Guardians doesn’t really feel like Halo anymore. Because of the brilliant balancing work Industries put into Halo 5: Guardians, these two mechanics are some of the early It’s , of course there are weird matchmaking issues.

A lot of criticism has been rightfully lobbed at Industries over their handling of the Master Chief Collection on Xbox One. Even now, while working close to optimally, the package is something of a mess. But there is good cause for this beta to take place so far out from release because Halo 5 looks to shake the foundations of the series multiplayer to its core. During the three week span that i had the beta running, I played roughly 50 matches, developing some opinions on the direction the series is heading.
I tell you this so that you have a basis for my likes and dislikes of the beta and also as an easy out for those of you that think Bungie and i ruined Halo after Halo 2. On its surface Halo 5 looks like every other Halo game. It features two teams red vs. But once I sat down to play it, I was shocked at just how different the game feels. And it plays fast, not as fast as something like Call of Duty but faster and more mobile than any Halo that has come before it. There is continuous sprint which also enables sliding, boosters that enable you to dash offensively or defensively, the ability to hover for a short period, and the ability to clamber up walls.
And the maps are expertly designed to take advantage of these changes. I appreciate the push towards a more mobile Halo title. ADS has been a staple in most first person shooters for years now with Halo being the most notable holdout. The other changes are mostly good though.
Halo 5: Guardians
As expected from a beta, it is limited in content, to just three game types and seven maps. Breakout is a search-and-destroy style of game where there is one life, no respawns, and last team living wins the round. The first team to win five rounds walks away with a victory. Stronghold is an objective-based game type, where teams must control two of the three areas around the map in order to score points. Finally, the biggest change to note of is a thrust pack equipped for everyone.

What do you think? The new gametype is Breakout, a 4v4 stand-off made up of 6 rounds where everybody only has one life and your goal is to eliminate the enemy team. How hard is it to match people together with a similar skill rank? I just lost 4 matches straight because of this. I normally would think that I just suck, but each time, my entire team went horribly negative and the other team completely swamped us me having most of the kills.
Every time I spawned, I was less than 5 yards away from an enemy and was killed, too. Plus nobody went for the power weapons.
